How to measure the length of handrail when replaced escalator handrail

When the escalator is used for a long time, the handrail will be damaged. At this time, we must replace the handrail. Before the replacement, the length of the handrail must be accurately measured. When I met some maintenance personnel who lacked experience in escalator maintenance, they didn't know how to measure it at all.
There is also maintenance personnel who first took off the handrail and measured it. Such a measuring method. It is inaccurate and very laborious. The escalator must stop running and wait for the newly purchased handrails to arrive. I will share with you a simple and labor-saving measurement method, and I hope to help the escalator repair and maintenance colleagues.

First: Preparation
1. This work is performed by at least two employees and must be performed by professional escalator repair and maintenance operators.
2. Prepare and prevent the guardrails of the upper and lower platforms, and set the escalator to stop using warning signs to prevent passengers from entering by mistake.
3. Prepare a watercolor pen.
4. A steel tape ruler over 3 meters.

Second: Measurement
1. This operation must be performed on the non-curved handrail area of the escalator's ramp section.
2. The escalator can be operated in both automatic operation and maintenance model. Use maintenance operations as much as possible so that the escalator can be controlled and stopped accurately.
3. Generally, the escalator is suitable to run in an upward direction, and the operation is more convenient.
4. On the non-curved area of the handrail on the upper end of the escalator, draw a baseline with a watercolor pen in front and back, and mark "0" and 0 meters.
5. Measure from the side of “0” down to the non-curved section of the lower handrail.
6. Draw a line on the handrail as the next start point.
7. Mark the length on the rule.
8. The escalator runs upwards.
9. When running, be careful not to place the line marked with the length mark just above the arc area, and stop the escalator.
10. Measure down to the non-curved area of the lower handrail with a  ruler at the position marked with the length mark.
11. Measure the length plus the position of the length just marked, and then draw a marking straight line on the handrail.
12. The length values added on the table.
13. Repeat steps 9 to 12 while moving the escalator up
14. Until the "0" mark appears on the surface of the handrail.
15. Measuring the length of the position marked by "0" up to this point is the total length of the handrail.

Third. A new handrail can be purchased according to the measured length.
Fourth: The length of the new handrails ordered at the time of purchase should not be longer than the total length of this measurement. It is slightly shorter by a few centimeters.
You can compensate by adjusting the tensioning device of the handrail during installation.
If the length exceeds this length, the tensioning device may be adjusted to the limit. Replacement is troublesome.

Also, we add the handrail inner size illustration picture.

WHO details protective measures against novel coronavirus

The World Health Organization (WHO) has published an article on the basic information, transmission mechanism and protection measures relating to the novel coronavirus in a Q&A format, amid global efforts to tackle the outbreak. The following is the text of the article.
Q1: What is a coronavirus?
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses found in both animals and humans. Some infected people are known to cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
Q2: What is a "novel" coronavirus?
A novel coronavirus is a new strain of coronavirus that has not been previously identified in humans. The "novel" coronavirus, now called 2019-nCoV, has not previously detected before the outbreak was reported in Wuhan, China in December.
Q3: How dangerous is the novel coronavirus?
Infection with 2019-nCoV can cause mild symptoms including a runny nose, sore throat, cough, and fever. It can be more severe for some persons and lead to pneumonia or breathing difficulties.
More rarely, the disease can be fatal. Older people and people with pre-existing medical conditions appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus.
Q4: Can 2019-nCoV be transmitted from person to person?
Yes, it can be transmitted from person to person, usually after close contact with an infected patient.
Q5: What can I do to protect myself?
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub.
Maintain social distancing -- maintain at least 1 meter distance between yourself and other people, particularly those who are coughing, sneezing and have a fever.
Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.
If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early.
Q6: Should I wear a mask?
Wearing a medical mask can help limit the spread of some respiratory disease. However, it should be combined with other prevention measures including hand and respiratory hygiene and avoiding close contact.
Q7: Is it safe to receive a package from China or any other place where the virus has been identified?
Yes. From experience with other coronaviruses, we know that these types of viruses do not survive long on objects, such as letters or packages.
Q8: Are there any specific medicines to prevent or treat 2019-nCoV?
To date, no. Some specific treatments are under investigation and being tested through clinical trials.
The following measures are not specifically recommended as 2019-nCoV remedies as they are not effective and can be even harmful: taking vitamin C, smoking, drinking traditional herbal teas, wearing multiple masks, taking self-medication such as antibiotics which do not work against viruses.
